Swimming Pools
»You can virtually feel the puddles beneath the soles of your feet and sense the smell of a changing room in your nose ...« – Novum, Magazine for Graphic Design
As an ocean within your own garden or a venue for any public bathing facility: The pool is a place to soothe desires of cooling off on hot days, a place of refreshment, holiday and luxury. Andrea Altemueller has visited the blue pools from Germany to Switzerland, Italy and Brazil, and she has created atmospheric pictures, which make the deserted locations an ideal projection screen for our own desires.
Water is the Essence »When you look at the individual pictures, you can practically smell the scent of bathing oils or hear the typical soundscape of an outdoor bathing facility. The hands of a clock, which seem to be frozen in time, are somewhat symbolic and seem to tease the eager anticipation of summer and the beginning of a new season. People tend to be magically attracted to the amorphousness of water, which is perhaps due to the fact that the human body weight is comprised of over 75 percent water, and the people fill their bathing costumes with liquid energy and can at last dream the dreams of summer and – go swimming.« (Bill Kouwenhoven)
Andrea Altemüller Andrea Altemueller, the photographer from Munich, born in 1964, often dreams of water. The subject is part of her subconscious mind. Therefore, it was merely a question of time before she began her series of bathing facilities and swimming pools.
