Kim Young-Hee – Sculpture 2D

»Kim Young-Hee swam against the currents with her earlier works, especially on the subject of Western dominance over the art of her home country, thus, her latest works deal with the rapid changes of Korea in an even more ironic and universal manner. The view of modern Korea has had a considerable impact on the creative work of the artist over the past decade.« (Dr. Gerhard Charles Rump)

Sculptures in the form of pictures
»Sculpture 2D – Very Korean. Very European. Very Universal.« combines her works of the most recent period, from both the Western and Eastern areas of culture, together in an enlightening dialog for the very first time: The result illustrates enigmatic, vivid sculptural compositions in the form of pictures, as well as a playful and humorous light heartedness, which sometimes manages to turn our Western way of thinking completely upside down. Her latest works of art are filigree, often illustrations of only a few centimetres in size, which are eternalised in a state of changelessness with the aid of photography.

Kim Young-Hee
Kim Young-Hee, the sculptress born in Kyongju, Korea in 1944, received international recognition with her own distinctive sculptures made from mulberry paper, symbols of traditional Korea, its culture and its people. In her home country, Kim Young-Hee is counted among the most famous visual artists and also one of the most successful authors, whose novels achieve bestseller status in her country. She acquired this artistic reputation with 70 solo exhibitions worldwide. The works of Kim Young-Hee are constantly exhibited by the HYUNDAI gallery in Korea, as well as at many other international exhibitions. She has already managed to reach a wide, international audience (museums, large concerns and private collections). A Korean city and a large concern are presently planning a museum especially for her works of art. Her autobiography, based on her own novel, is currently being filmed in Korea. She has been living and working in Germany since 1981.
